Money for Nothing, Chicks for Free - Genesis of FMR
Thursday, I thought I was delusional.
Friday, I was lost for words.
Saturday, the ecstasy continued.
Sunday, genesis is confirmed.
If history and myth is any guide, then I am a re-born phoenix on fire.
Audiophiles are adapted to using a matrix reference system to evaluate the effectiveness of the medium to communicate emotion. Despite its primitive nature or for the lack of a better assessment regime, we manage to take refuge so far by expressing our feelings with comparatives and superlatives. Looking back the rich library of descriptives and advances propagated by AE fellowship, to name a few of the more notable creativities, the cocktail elements of "Earth, Wind & Fire", the "Cannonball Base Trap" and last but not least the "Ip Man Kung Fu Magic", had me grasping for breath to keep my balance. It therefore makes no sense that there is no accolade advanced for the FMR so far - the Fluid Mechanics of Music Reproduction.
FMR is a canvas without boundaries. The musical freedom it bings forth is so convincing that I feel it is an injustice to describe it in terms of energy density, transient and micro-details. In records after records, music comes alive as if God has puffed a breath of life to the music itself. And I don't just meant "organic", the music really goes right to your heart in its purist form - honest, truthful and uncolored. This fluidity is unheard of and so natural that perhaps it's worth going back to Fluid Mechanics 101 to borrow some insights. When fluid moves through a pipe, the mass will travel at different velocities with distribution that is primarily dictated by the geometry. This creates drags and pressure differentials. If we take a leap of faith and apply this principle to cables, every design will have its signature "sound" as a result of the drag. This "sound" or "color" will lead to drag that (1) slow down the flow velocity from its theoretical limit and (2) distort the intended audio waveform given that its zero sum nature i.e. where it adds, it will subtract from other. Adding to that any colorings that the rest of the chain provides, it is pretty much assured we will never come close to realism. It is just puzzling that when people look at an off-color photo, we can immediately conclude that the color temperature is incorrect. But time after time, we refuse to accept that audio coloring is the cardinal sin - perhaps deep down, we already given up the destiny of true color Based on the past 72 hours experience, the FMR is damn close to zero drag - the high no longer waves with its wing and the low transverses more naturally. This re-balancing has a tremendous impact on overall details - and I would contibute this to be the result of removal of the flow turbulence. When white water settles, we finally see life to the bottom of the stream. My heart rejoices with this new found purity and I am in awe of the genesis. For the money spent, we are finally paying for "nothing" - nothing added and nothing subtracted! The cable industry's practice of charging for weight and MSG is coming to an end - and that is assuming it can catch up to what FMR achieves.

Dude, are you going to play double? Raw sex is good. Do you refer to one partner or two partners?
That depends on what incremental improvement the 2nd pair of interconnect will bring. I suspect this gonna be extremely revealing of the shortfall in the rest of my system and accelerate the chain reaction.
I asked PT for an indicative price and he showed me the Mona Lisa smile.
If the hypothesis is correct, the additional amount of quality bass generated from the 2nd pair will give me a fair indication if the capacity of PD has been maxed out. The final puzzle - i.e. the speaker cable, will depend if it will deliver nirvana or push the PD over the cliff.
PT,
Don't spoil my party - do keep the price tag away from me until my sanity returns!
I decided to let it run-in for a full 24 hours before actually sit down for a critical session. This morning under insurmountable curosity and temptation, I did pop my head into the play room for about 30 seconds - found the music to be utmost relax and silky but without losing any details.
In 2008, people would laugh if a solid state + ceramic driver can deliver this kind of serenity. In 2009, the world is going crazy as HSBC is plunging towards $40.
I kid u not, I am re-discovering music and wonder how I can survive the colorations since heyday. The show just keeps getting more interesting. Next and final stop - FMR speaker cable.
Are you being sun-tanned or colored?
