We are putting up too much pressure on marvel bro. I tend to agree with Voy now after swapping amps a few more times. The german tank is too tight on the bass, but I got carry away by the soundstaging magic of the baldur. The truth is the lower mid is there but the energy is recessed. The cello resonacne extention seems chopped off. Still, I am happy with the german tank. No amp is super man, right?!
No pressure at all...I will likely 'add' instead of 'replacing' a power amp as I find Heritage+Conductor+Baldur is throwing a magnificent soundstage on CD playback with rich contents. I am glad that you have taken the effort of swapping (more frequently) the power amp and express your view since at this moment, I have not yet experienced on the EC300B due to some other work tieing me up at the moment.
I have not made up my mind yet...all these 3 are top notch players and it is really tough decision for me...
Fat hing, I am using Baldur pairing with its preamp Conductor on Cd play back via Heritage DAC. At the same time, I use Syren phono preamp on LP playback. Enjoying both combination without much complaint at the moment.
ccn hing, the imbalance problem that you heard last Sat was due to the poor connection on one of the phono cable, it has since been fixed last night and I am back to action...due to the poor connection, it also leads to some background noise because of the grounding..now clear clouds are back...
On last Sun night, another 805 veteran, DSo, visited my place, listening to the Baldur driving the Cessaro Affacionate. Of course, to his liking of orchestral msuic, the overall sound cannot satisfy him because he felt that the bass was a bit tight on my listening position. It is better at about 3 feet backward. We were both very excited about how Cessaro would match with 300B, 211 Push Pull and 805...a great learning lesson for me.
Without further delay, PT lent me his own Wavac EC300B last night together with the matching SRA platform. Surprisingly, the solid mass of the EC300B is kind of inproportional to its sheer size when sitting next to Baldur....
With EC300B, music from treble to bass all coming out at ease at the expense of the soundstage at z-axis when compared to Baldur. Baldur gives a more solid mid bass impact while over controlling slightly on the low bass while EC300B is certainly driving the 12bass horn with a more open and relaxed energy dispersion. Overall there is no tension or agitation on any frequency range that I can hear of.
With a bigger room and longer distance from the speaker, I believe Conductor Baldur would give me the grandeur feeling with a much bettter bass dispersion and 'physical distance' of traverse. In my current space, probably all I need is something from a 300B, 805, 211 family.
DSo and Charles will be visiting me tomorrow and I hope they will share some comments after hearing the EC300B with Cessaro...
From your comparison static, the German tank in retrospect seems sounds tense in most frequency range with agility. The deep bass is recessed "slight". The goodies is only the z-axis and solid mid-bass impact. I am trying to imagine what it sounds like. Maybe, it sounds like an orchestra under the Reiner's baton but without the cello/ double bass section on the right. If it is violin concerto, the energy of the string section may protrude too much to your face. This is a very imbalance system then. I am glad the EC300B saves Marvel bro and the horn.
