    He dropped the arm finally.

It was quite a day. The setup from start to finish was about 45 minutes. Half of the time was spent on getting the right level for the platter and the arm. Before this, our LP specialist spent 3 days to explore how to set the optimium balance of the air pressure supporting both the platter and the arm.

Charles was so impressed because it seems too "plug and play". The sound is gorgeous and touching. We tested so many LPs and could not find any abnormalities in sound. We listened non-stop for 2 full hours.

The reasons why we set it up 10 days ago was because Charles was totally unfamiliar to the vinyl world. We want him to be familiar with the setup both in terms of actual operation and appreciation. The days subsequent were full of interesting stories as the leveling probably was slightly off due to slight physical movement when changing phono cables, temperature variation that causes water to get into the air (temperature inside the room is much cooler than the air pump located outside. Just like what happens to our glasses when we got off an air-conditioned car).

Then upon more listening, Charles tried to change tubes again to allow the best signal integration from the Bergman turntable to unleash. First on the 805, we switched from Telefunken to Slyvania. Then, I recommended to start changing tubes inside the PR-T1. The mullard is too dense in the mid-range sacrificing dynamic to a certain degree but good enough. It may especially match the digital source but for the vinyl, the very origin carries enormous texture and rich tonality to begin with. So, we want more transparency but not the type of "partial transparency" offered by telefunken in the upper register. Charles went on to try 4 Slyvania 12AU7 as of yesterday when I was in Singapore. We made the decision to stick with 12AU7 via "SMS" conference through the iPhone.

I just want to highlight that the work behind the presentation of the Sindre turntable tomorrow began almost two weeks ago. During the course of the past two weeks, Charles, myself and our Lp guy have been keeping track of everything almost everyday based on Charles' feedback on the change of sound from day to day. Of course, corresponding adjustment in room acoustics followed thru as well.

I hope it will be a fruitful session for all of us tomorrow. Yes, we need to work even harder today. We shall begin working right after lunch after until we are satisfied.

Yesterday, Johnie Bergman was doing fine-tuning at Charle's residence.

Johnie showed us something much smarter than the glass disc to level the tonearm perfectly is just a simple tube-shell like tool that fits directly to the tonearm. If the tube shell tilts rightward too fast, then you just adjust the spike without drop the arm at all! This is very clever, simple, and very effective to achieve perfect leveling.
  • Options
Now it is a matter of turning the spike to adjust the level of the tonearm by watching the movement of the tube shell on the arm.

Just want to make sure, he checked the alignment and the azimuth again.

Later in the afternoon, we started tube rolling again to achieve even better overall balance.

We decided to add an acoustic panel by AudioSmile to deal with the glass at the back in addition to the treatment by Franck's resonator.

After listening a few tracks, Johnie said to us that "This system is better than mine back in Denmark. It sounds fantastic. The bass is very controlled, the violin is powerful, dynamic and rich at the same time."

We worked from 1:00pm to almost 9:00pm yesterday. I hope Johnie had a good sleep yesterday and he shall see everyone today.

Although, Johnie was getting a little bit exciting during his speech, BUT when we start listening 1st record by the Kogan/Tchaikosky Violin concerto , i believe the Bergmann turntable proof & explain the potential itself to us already, I m listening at the middle sit & the first thing i do is eye checking the speaker cable, i was deeply suprise by the details & very dynamic which is using the SR SC only, and the mid low bass was energy & stable. How come??? is this the power of Linear tracking arm?

Let see what Marvel's view tomorrow.......... must be interesting with Tidal phono.

Thank you Mr.Dv's opening comment. I believe everyone was touched by the performance of the Bergman turntable delivering the Kogan/Tchaikosky Violin concerto yesterday. The delivery is very confident, dynamic, controlled and the integrity of the soundstage is fully honored with majestic presence.

Dso was very impressed too. He told me maybe his time should all be concentrating on LPs from now on. I am not sure if he was kidding or not but I could see he was thoroughly satisfied.
