If music does matter

Finally, a complete Da Vinci vinyl amplification system consists of the Grandezza cartridge, Grandezza tonearm, the Gradezza MC Transformer, and the latest arrival MM Phonostage in dual mono chassis. Even without the MM Phonostage, the House Sound of Da Vinci is one of a kind. It has lots of sense and sensibility at the same time. It does not belong to the hyper photo realistic type of musical landscape depiction. The perspective is defnitively not the viewfinder type but never compromises microdynamics.

While the photo-realistic school of thought allow you to see and feel more microdynamics, the house sound of Da Vinci embraces microdynamics through the change and variation of timbre shading. You may not see or feel the finger movement from one muscial note to another one, but we do feel the timbre changes as a result of the micro-movement of the fingers. Listener may find the portraits of music by the photo realistic school is more lively than the latter, while the musical presentation by the Da Vinci is a total organic expereince.

The realistic school may find it warmer, and admirer of Da Vinci may find the tonal temperature of the former cooler. But what it is so addictive about it is the complete absence of the Jadis-type of mid-range coloration. In fact the tonal purity is akin to the snowflakes in the swss mountains over Bern where Da Vinci is located.

As usual, the road to the musical utopia is always bumpy. When we first connect the dual mono phono stage in the chain, there are tremendous amount of ground noises. Later, we find out the phonostage is a floating ground design. Prior to its arrival, we add a ground bridge between the output and input inside the MC-transformer to eliminate radio frequencies noises. The transformer is ultra sensitive to RF and EMI noises. We were forced to do that. Because of this extra bridge, we also created a ground loop ground. This ground loop noises feed directly into the floating ground design phonostage.

As a result, we had to cut the bridge. Ground nosies were gone immediately but the RF noises in the form of "deeedat...deee.deee.dat...dedat....dedat....." came back. Then our technican had to add a resistor inside the MC transformer to take care of the problem. When these noises were finally gone, the moment of musical truth surfaces at 11:00pm in the evening.

We listened at low volume till 2:00am in the morning. It was nothing but complete musical notes flowing around all the way through. We need more time to do more indepth understanding of the Da Vinci sound. For the time being, hope the pics can cure short term curiosity.
