My first Vinyl System

  • Studiogrey,

You have got a suite of classy TT+phono, with Monaco (seems to be an irreversible deal), GF, I think you should stay away from Kondo considering the above comments by Voy and Chopsticks unless you chance to IOJ instead of GF. That is also why I mentioned to you a few days ago that if I go for DV cartridge, I will try the DV phono. Matching seems to be more stringent in the space of vinyl than CD transport with DAC. Though I am relatively inexperienced, mix and matching may not yield the best of both in the vinyl world.

  • I am indeed using RavenOne, though I am not sure who leaked it :-)

And I am also using Kondo SFz step-up w/ the M7 phono. So maybe I should chip in my 2 peso as well.

I am using the (gasp!) Denon DL-103SA cartridge, as this is my first "real" LP jig, I am not sure what works for me, and what doesn't, and I have a very curious 2 year old at home as well, so the IO-J or IO-M will be for later (funds permitting of course). The Denon is also relatively low output at 0.25mv.

I have heard the Kondo chain using VDH Colibri as well (absolutely freaking brilliant), and it has 0.65mV output. So it may be worth experimenting I was told by fellow Kondo owners that Koetsu and Miyabi will work beautifully as well.

    YMMV.

  • Studiogrey, in addition to the match of impedance, GF needs a phono with relatively low output gain like Zanden 1200. This combination serves me very well and I trust it will give you a totally different experience from your 天鵝 suite. I am considering an upgrade to Mark III in 2008.
