Thanks to Chris, I was invited to the appreciation programme on 6 June. Chris explained the background and reasons for hosting these appreciation sessions to put the whole thing in perspective before we went into listening mode.
All the tracks Chris chose were very popular and familiar ones back in the days (at least to me). Guess that just shows my age. Whilst I have heard the songs many times, I have not heard these particular versions of the recordings. It was very interesting to hear the difference in recording quality over the years and the variations depending on the artist and producer. Understanding their preferences and histories and how these affect recording quality was easily discernible through AE’s impressive setup.
Chris also took the opportunity to share his experience regarding setting appropriate gain in different parts of the playback chain and hearing the difference first hand makes you appreciate it much more than if you had just read it in an article.
I enjoyed the educational aspect of the session. To me, the nature of this programme was leaning more towards the “analytical” side as I did pay a lot of attention on seating position, resonances, recording quality etc. Certainly exceeded expectations in this regard.
I went home and couldn’t resist revisiting the same tracks on my own system. This time it wasn’t to compare and evaluate (there’s just no point) but more for pure enjoyment of the music.
Overall, a great way to support a great cause. Thankyou Chris and thankyou AE.

這一連串的善舉令我體會「以身作則」的重要性,因為這增強了一呼百應的効果。再且,持續性比一次性的効果大,但需要長時間的奉獻。所以時間上的貢獻,其實比金錢大許多,因為時間有限,而且不能借貸。我曾屢次聽到幾位高人指點,只有做善事才能改變命運。如果命運延續致永生的慨念,那麼此時的貢獻也不是太多,一切在乎於我們的思考角度。

我從昨天的音樂活動深深感受到這點,為的不是我付出了兩小時去享受音樂,而是Chris 在每次活動前的準備工夫把系统的表現不斷提升,所投資的時間和專注力來去達至成果,是值得敬佩和學習!
此系统由我第一次開始接觸至今已經有兩個月月了。期間引進的改善是非常正面!玩音響,Chris再一次證明是一種態度,是一種永不妥協的態度,而不是沒有方向的亂加亂減。
因我早咗去到AE 上環音響室,有機會先聽幾首歌才開始這次聚會。腦海瞬間回想數年前在此聽到了”鄧麗君”尤如在現場唱,非常感動。當年也聽了仙樂飄飄處處聞”(黑膠唱片)其中一首歌,我能「看」見一群小朋友前前後後在水池邊和唱。
為了今天的活動,原來他早一天再檢聽整個系統直至晚上十一時,好佩服他的敬業樂業精神和精力,更令我明白AE為何永遠都能走在前。Chris説現在係AE上環最頂峰的表現。我懷着好奇心究竟何謂頂峰?好聲又在什麼地方?
曲目和之前差不多,但第一首播是許冠傑的”打雀英雄傳”。我想這是新播歌曲,一開始播放,整個音響室立即變成麻雀舖,搭麻雀聲清脆又立體,許冠傑年青有力調皮歌聲歷歷在目。在播陳慧嫻告別演唱會黑較唱片,她與和音團隊合唱時(高音段),高頻有極豐富內容和極微細嘅分隔度。我心想這些就是Chris說的”好聲”。最後張國榮的”共同渡過”,我相信在場人士都能夠和哥哥在他舞台上聽他演繹這首經典。
多謝AE, Chris and Marvel 帶給我這次難忘嘅經驗。

我也想討論一下究竟點樣可以播放到麻雀聲是否一粒粒的立體感,而且連張麻雀枱和麻雀的撞擊互動的能量也表現到。老媽的聽感與你一樣,身如麻雀館之中。她後生時也有去麻雀館。

我個人認為是整個系統嘅(硬件同線材,能量釋放和控制)配合,最重要是AE 四大”抗震動”理念的堅持和持續的改善(發覺大有不同, 舉例active bass trap 再運用超低喇叭配合聲音密度嘅需要)。

聞説你系統重播張學友演唱會非常之震撼,可以叫他親自來鑑賞。
駐波會抵消音樂訊息及能量,亦會加入一層隱若可聞的底噪,掩蓋了麻雀碰撞時一些微量訊息,足以影響立體感的產生。而喇叭震動會影響這些細微訊息的同步性,以致人耳認為沒有真實的立體感。我相信Chris已經處理了這兩個失真源才能播到這種立體感。
最近我也是在處理房間的駐波及反射的問題,加上Chris在調音上的意見,才可以有進步,但仍有很多進步空間,要繼續研究才能追上AE各showroom的水平。
我一直很喜歡細讀你的分析,有邏輯,也有科學背景。你要管理的系統,不是容易的事。難得Chris在你家中聽完張學友演唱後即場鼓掌,並非容易。
